WE LOVE HOPS!

WE GROW SMALL SCALE, SUSTAINABLY GROWN HOPS FOR LOCAL BREWS

  • DescriHops are responsible for the bittering flavors and aromas in beer as well as being a natural preservative.  Hops also have a pretty amazing amount of medicinal properties, including reducing stress and anxiety, hormone therapy and insomnia. Sonoma County used to be a major supplier of hops, from the early 1900’s until the end of World War II. By the 1950’s, Washington and Oregon took the lead thanks to mechanization and reduced pest and disease pressure.  There is now a movement to bring hops back to Sonoma County on a small scale. With 30 craft breweries in Sonoma County, it only makes sense to have a local supply of hops. We believe more and more people will want to know what is in their beer and where the ingredients come from.

  • Our hops are grown following organic and regenerative farming practices.  They are harvested in late August/early September for use in wet-hopped or fresh-hopped beers.  This means that rather than drying and pelletizing the hops as is the conventional method, they are delivered to the brewer within hours of picking and go straight into the brew.  That way all of the delicious oils, terpenes and aromas are retained in the beer. The result is a beer that is mellow, delicate and freshly vibrant; the equivalent of using fresh basil and oregano rather than dried for your tomato sauce.   Be sure to ask your favorite brewer if they make wet hopped beers and help support your local hop farmer!

  • Are you a home brewer? We can provide you with small quantities of fresh hops for your own wet hopped brew. Send us an email and we will get you what you need!
